On October 21^st, 2011, RA ministry of Emergency Situations, UNDP Armenia and Foundation of National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction aorganized conference dedicated to National Strategy of DRR in RA.

The Goal of the Conference was to further promote rapid and sustainable development of the DRR system in Armenia. During the Conference major development of DRR system in Armenia for last year’s was introduced, the process of developing DRR Strategy in the country was discussed; major directions for further development of DRR system in Armenia has been outlined.

Head of departments of RA Ministries, Marzpets, representatives from Embassies and International Organizations have been attending the conference. Greeting remarks have been given by RA Minister of Emergency Situations, Mr. Armen Yeritsyan and United Nations Resident; Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Mrs. Dafina Gercheva. During the plenary sessions National Study on DRR accomplished within the framework of “Views from Frontline” project by Regional Environmental Center for Caucasus Armenia Branch Office and Oxfam GB Armenia Office has been presented by REC Caucasus Armenia BO, Agro-biodiversity National Team Leader, Ms. Dshkhuhi Sahakyan and Oxfam GB, Armenia Country Director, Ms. Margarita Hakobyan.

Photo exhibition “Dzayn Bazmots” dedicated to the International day of DRR has also been launched during the Conference. The Conference was aimed at the following key stakeholders/participants: The Government of Armenia, the Ministry of Emergency Situation and its structures, ARNAP DRR National Platform members, Regional and Community DRR organizations, local and regional authorities, international organizations involved in DRR sector of Armenia, UN organizations working in DRR, local NGOs and scientific organizations, other interested partners and stakeholders. At the end of Conference the participants will have an up to dated information on the status and development of DRR system in Armenia; the draft DRR Strategy will be updated based on comments and feedback from the stakeholders; the important milestones for DRR development in Armenia has been developed.
