During the UNECE Belgrade conference, Central Asian countries, international and non-governmental organizations endorsed the proposal of Kazakhstan to hold next ministerial conference “Environment for Europe” in Astana, (Kazakhstan) in 2011.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan confirmed its commitment to CAI principles, and supports CAREC efforts on assistance to preparation and holding of the ministerial conference “Environment for Europe” in Astana (Kazakhstan) in 2011. (letter of February 10, 2009).
According to the protocol decision of the working conference of the Ministry of Environmental Protection-UNDP-CAREC (5-7 of December, 2008), it was proposed to establish the Conference of Parties (COP) in order to provide inter-sectoral support of activities of the task force on arrangement of the ministerial conference in 2010-2011.
The Conference of Parties will be comprised of representatives of the ministries, national companies, business sector, science, NGOs and international organizations.
The first “Assessment of Assessments” (AoA) was carried out on the state of the marine environment. Launched in 2005 by the UN General Assembly (resolution 60/30), this was a pioneer activity aimed at building the foundations of a regular process for global reporting and assessment of the state of the world’s oceans.
